Stay Safe Outdoors

Updated: Jul 10, 2020

People have started to teach classes outside in small groups and with social distancing in place, but the hot weather can be more difficult to dance in, so here is a little reminder of a few simple things you can do;

1. This is obvious, but stay well hydrated, one little bottle of water isn't enough. If you're working hard for several hours, have a sports drink to replace the electrolytes that you're losing through sweat. Also make sure you have eaten before doing any workout, but allow time for digestion and try to avoid any high fat or too protein heavy meals the effort of disgusting such food raises your body temperature. If you don't do these things you are just going to end up feeling pants or passing out, so don't be a donut.

2. Have a wet towel with some ice in it nearby. Use it to cool yourself down during breaks.

Tip: Placing it in your armpits helps cool down your core even faster.

Also some people like to bring spray bottles with peppermint in them.

3. Wear the right kind of clothing. Nice and floaty so air can get to your skin, rather than thick clothes which cling to you as it is going to make you hotter. Remember to put sunscreen on where your skin is exposed.

4. Say something if you are too hot, if you feel dizzy or sick. You are allowed to sit down and you are allowed to stop. I would like to think that people have thought about their outside area choice, so that there is a shaded area to sit down in.

Enjoy your outdoor sessions, but stay safe ☀️❤️
