Burlesque: Between the Beats

Length: 2hrs (can be 1.5hrs if needed)
Level: Beginner-friendly
Props: Gloves, corset, bra and tassels (optional and can be mimed)
Contains gentle standing and low-level movement; all pacing is adaptable. Alternative movements given.

Description:
In this sensual burlesque workshop, we’ll explore the power of slowing down, learning how and why deliberate pacing can make your performance more captivating, confident, and undeniably sultry. Designed especially for those venturing into burlesque or looking to work on slowing things down to find the tease, this session focuses on presence, intention, and holding space on stage.

Using a beginner-level routine as our foundation, we’ll break down how to move with clarity and purpose, discovering how stillness, breath, and controlled transitions can speak just as loudly as big tricks or fast choreography.

You’ll learn how to:
• Understand the why behind slowing down, and how it builds tension, confidence, and audience connection.
• Use intention, breath, and focus to make simple movements feel rich and seductive.
• Hold space on stage, learning where to place your attention, gaze, and energy in a slow, sultry number.
• Explore musicality at a slower tempo, allowing the music to guide timing, pauses, and emotional choices.
• Develop confidence in stillness, eye contact, and sustained moments without rushing or filling space unnecessarily.

Expect grounding, sensual exploration, confidence-building “aha!” moments, and permission to take up space unapologetically. This workshop is calm, empowering, and deeply supportive—perfect for dancers who want to feel more connected to their movement and presence.

By the end of this session, participants will leave with a short slow-burn routine and the foundational tools to approach sultry burlesque numbers with intention, confidence, and magnetic control.
